Selective Demolition & Excavation
• Sawcut and remove existing 4" unreinforced concrete basement slab (approx. 1,450 sq.ft) with electric or hydraulic saws to prevent CO toxicity indoors.
• Excavate basement floor to an average depth of 28 inches below existing floor elevation to achieve target 8'-6" clear basement ceiling height.
• Install temporary structural shoring posts and jacks supporting the existing 2-storey floor system prior to load-bearing partition demolition.
Structural Underpinning (1-2-3 / A-B-C Sequence)
• Sequentially excavate and cast 31 reinforced concrete underpinning pins around exterior foundation perimeter in strictly alternating sequence (Section 1, 2, 3 or A, B, C).
• No adjacent pins shall be excavated simultaneously. Concrete shall cure for a minimum of 48 hours prior to dry-packing.
• Place minimum 2" to 3" non-shrink structural dry-pack grout (min 50 MPa at 28 days) rammed between top of cured underpinning concrete and underside of existing rubble/concrete footing.
Cast-In-Place Concrete & Moisture Protection
• Supply and install interior 4" perforated weeping tile connected to existing or proposed sump pit, covered with 3/4" clear stone wrapped in filter geotextile.
• Install 10-mil polyethylene or 2" extruded polystyrene (XPS R-10) continuous sub-slab vapor barrier taped at all laps.
• Pour new 4" concrete basement slab with 25 MPa compressive strength, 5-7% air entrainment, smooth steel-troweled finish.
